What’s that sound you hear? That’s the loud boom of excitement from me after checking out the trailer for Brad Pitt’s new film, Fury, written and directed by David Ayer (End of Watch), which all but ensures that this will be a well-crafted character-driven film — a common theme for the best World War II movies.
The film also has an impressive cast including Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal (Snitch), Michael Peña (Gangster Squad). And for some reason, Shia LaBeouf is also in the cast. How does this guy keep getting consistent work???
I’m a sucker for pretty much any World War II film so I am seriously excited about this one as Pitt is taking a far more serious approach to the epic conflict than his last foray into WWII territory with Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
Oscar voters are also notoriously easy marks for war films as well so don’t be shocked if this starts getting year-end award consideration buzz. At any rate, it’s assuredly much better already than Pitt’s pal, George Clooney’s, dull WWII effort, The Monuments Men.
