The Road is Jericho review

the-road-is-jericho-blu-ray-and-dvd-cover-e1428595888535For his second career retrospective, WWE fans get to take a road trip with Chris Jericho in ‘The Road is Jericho: Epic Stories & Rare Matches From Y2J” Jericho is leaving New York en route to a gig, but he’s invited a WWE camera crew along for the ride in his limo.

In a departure from most home video projects, Jericho is the sole voice here as there’s no other wrestlers, bookers or commentators sharing their thoughts on his matches.

Those various perspectives help make these home video efforts so special while this one is more of a glorified clip show. The three-disc set would probably benefit from a bit more of Jericho’s non-WWE career as a few solid WCW matches are missing. Jericho is charming and likable as he details the stories. The set’s also aided by the fact that Jericho isn’t so wrapped up in his own ego that he only included matches he won providing a welcome unpredictability to the matchups Jericho says he’s never watched these matches and he’s just going from memory.

the-road-is-jericho-jericho-in-the-limoJericho actually being on the road gives the impression somewhat that this was a slapped together production and it would have been nice to occasionally show him watching and reacting to the matches to get his fresh take on them. The more hardcore Jericho fans will find some stories familiar as he covered them in detail in his recent book – ‘The Best in the World: At What I Have No Idea’ – a typical fun Jericho read.

For card-carrying Jerichoholics, this is a no-brainer set to watch some of their hero’s next finest matches and candid discussions about his opponents and fun road stories.
